This course combines the knowledge required to undertake both pre-purchase building inspections and pre-purchase timber pest inspections. 

The pre-purchase building inspector side....

The Pre-Purchase Building Inspection course will equip you with the knowledge and practical skills to undertake a detailed building inspection and produce professional reports for houses involved in property sales, as required by AS4349.1. You’ll learn pre-engagement procedures, inspection techniques, and report writing skill to ensure accurate and trusted reports are completed for your clients.

The pre-purchase pest inspector side....

The pest side of a pre-purchase building and pest inspection involves timber pests, as they cause the 'real' damage. The Pre-Purchase Pest Inspection course will equip you with the knowledge to undertake detailed timber pest inspections and reports for houses involved in property sales as required by AS4349.3. This course covers nationally recognised units CPPUPM3008 and CPPUPM3010. These units cover both treating and inspecting on timber pests, and even though you are only inspecting (and not treating), you must complete both to obtain Professional Indemnity insurance to conduct pre-purchase timber pest inspections.

Course Cost

There are two payment options for this course package:
  • OPTION 1 - $2,390 paid on enrolment
  • OPTION 2 - $990 paid on enrolment and then four (4) payments of $375/wk

Pre-Purchase Residential Building Inspector Course

  • Qualifications: Certificate of Completion - Pre-Purchase Residential Building Inspector
  • Pre-requisites: Certificate IV, Diploma or Degree in Building and Construction 
  • Learning Hours: Approximately 40 hours
  • Course Delivery: Students must complete the required learning modules delivered via our web-based based learning management system.
  • Practical Component: 
    Students must complete two (2) unsupervised pre-purchase residential building inspections and reports using AIT's inspection app. The inspections can be of the students residence and a a family members or friends property. The properties inspected should be atleast 5 years old.

Timber Pest Management Course

  • Qualifications: Statement of Attainment - Units CPPUPM3008 and CPPUPM3010
  • Pre-requisites: Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • Learning Hours: Approximately 100 hours
  • Course Delivery: Students must complete the required learning modules delivered via our web-based based learning management system.
  • Practical Component: Students must complete 10 timber pest inspections and 10 timber pest treatments under the supervision of a licensed timber pest technician.
    Important notes:
    - You must arrange your own work placement supervisor before enrolling.
    - AIT can refer students to pest companies in some capital cities who can assist with their supervised work placement, however a referral doesn't guarantee a placement. Contact the company and confirm they can supervise you before you enrol. Supervision costs $1,200 + GST, paid directly to the pest company supervising you.
