Course Overview

When it comes to pre-purchase building and pest inspections, Queensland is the most regulated region in Australia in terms of licensing. From the building inspection side of pre-purchase inspections, you must hold a QBCC builder's licence with 5 years experience, you can then complete our Pre-Purchase Residential Building Inspectors course which will allow you to apply fro a QBCC Completed Residential Building Inspectors licence.

From the pest side of pre-purchase inspections, there are a couple of steps to navigate. The QBCC defines pre-purchase timber pest inspections and reports as building work and regulates this work under a QBCC Termite Management – Chemical licence. To apply for this licence, you must first have a Queensland Health Timber Pest Management licence. To obtain this licence, you must complete 5 units of study;  general pest units CPPUPM3005, CPPUPM3006, CPPUPM3018 and timber pest units CPPUPM3008 and CPPUPM3010.

So in a nutshell, this course bundle covers all of it! It is made up of the following individual courses:

1. Pre-Purchase Residential Building Inspector QLD
2. General Pest Management
3. Timber Pest Management

All three courses are delivered online and self-paced, and you can enrol any time, there's no timetable and no intake dates to wait for. The bundle totals approximately 240 hours of learning which is made of 160 hours of online learning and 80 hours of supervised work placement for the two pest courses and approximately 6 hours of practical work on the building inspection course.

Students generally complete the course bundle in 10 to 12 weeks, studying two to three hours a night on weeknights and spending about one day a week in the field. Keep in mind that you have 9 months' access from the date of enrolment to complete the courses, which is plenty of time.

The QBCC lists two classes whose contractor licence requires professional indemnity (PI) insurance, and they're the two relevant to you: completed residential building inspector and termite management – chemical. You have to show current cover when you apply and each time you renew your licences.

There are two payment options for this course package:
  • OPTION 1 - $3,685 paid on enrolment
  • OPTION 2 - $985 paid on enrolment and then six (6) payments of $475/wk

Pre-Purchase Residential Building Inspector Course

  • Qualifications: Certificate of Completion - Pre-Purchase Residential Building Inspector
  • Pre-requisites: Certificate IV, Diploma or Degree in Building and Construction 
  • Learning Hours: Approximately 40 hours
  • Course Delivery: Students must complete the required learning modules delivered via our web-based based learning management system.
  • Practical Component: 
    Students must complete two (2) unsupervised pre-purchase residential building inspections and reports using AIT's inspection app. The inspections can be of the students residence and a a family members or friends property. The properties inspected should be at least 5 years old.

General Pest Management Course

  • Qualifications: Statement of Attainment - Units CPPUPM3005, CPPUPM3006 and CPPUPM3018
  • Pre-requisites: Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • Learning Hours: Approximately 100 hours
  • Course Delivery: Students must complete the required learning modules delivered via our web-based based learning management system.
  • Practical Component: Students must complete 10 general pest treatments WITH pesticides and 10 general pest treatments WITHOUT pesticides under the supervision of a licensed general pest technician. Therefore, 20 general pest treatments and seperate properties.
    Important notes:
    - You must arrange your own work placement supervisor before enrolling.
    - AIT can refer students to pest companies in some capital cities who can assist with their supervised work placement, however a referral doesn't guarantee a placement. Contact the company and confirm they can supervise you before you enrol. Supervision costs $1,200 + GST, paid directly to the pest company supervising you.

    4. CPPUPM3006 Manage Pests by Applying Pesticides
