Ants, cockroaches, rodents and other common pests do more than cause stress. They can spread disease, contaminate food and damage homes and businesses. That's why skilled, licensed pest management technicians are always needed across Australia.


Handling pesticides and pest control equipment without proper training can put you, your clients and the environment at risk. Our General Pest Management course teaches you how to identify pests, choose the right treatment, apply pesticides safely and help prevent future infestations.

What You'll Study

This course includes three core units of competency from CPP30119 Certificate III in Urban Pest Management:


CPPUPM3005 – Manage pests without applying pesticides

CPPUPM3006 – Manage pests by applying pesticides

CPPUPM3018 – Maintain equipment and pesticide storage area in pest management vehicle


On successful completion, you'll receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for these units.

Practical Assessment Made Easier

Getting hands-on experience is often the biggest hurdle for people new to the industry. We give you three options:


1. Complete your practical assessments with a licensed pest management technician that you arrange in your local area, or

2. Complete your practical assessments in your own workplace, if you already work in pest control, or

3. Complete your practical assessments through an AIT affiliated pest control business, if you are based in a capital city

Pathway to Your Pest Management Licence

Completing these units can help you meet the training requirements to apply for a pest management licence through your state or territory licensing authority. Licensing requirements vary between states and territories and may include additional conditions, so check with your local regulator before you enrol. Our team is happy to help you understand what applies to you.

Course Cost

There are two payment options for this course package:
  • OPTION 1 - $1,495 paid on enrolment
  • OPTION 2 - $695 paid on enrolment and then four (4) payments of $225/wk

General Pest Management Course

  • Qualifications: Statement of Attainment - Units CPPUPM3005, CPPUPM3006 and CPPUPM3018
  • Pre-requisites: Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • Learning Hours: Approximately 100 hours
  • Course Delivery: Students must complete the required learning modules delivered via our web-based based learning management system.
  • Practical Component: Students must complete 10 general pest treatments WITH pesticides and 10 general pest treatments WITHOUT pesticides under the supervision of a licensed general pest technician. Therefore, 20 general pest treatments and seperate properties.
    Important notes:
    - You must arrange your own work placement supervisor before enrolling.
    - AIT can refer students to pest companies in some capital cities who can assist with their supervised work placement, however a referral doesn't guarantee a placement. Contact the company and confirm they can supervise you before you enrol. Supervision costs $1,200 + GST, paid directly to the pest company supervising you.

    2. Work Placement Task 2 - General Pest Treatments WITHOUT Pesticides
    3. CPPUPM3005 Manage Pests Without Applying Pesticides
    Types of Pests, Species Identification – Ants/Cockroaches/Rodents/Spiders, Control Methods – Ants/Cockroaches/Rodents/Spiders, Pest Control Licensing Regulations, Pest Management General Requirements, Premises Inspection, Infestation Identification, Physical pest animal control methods, Preparing a property pest-management plan
    Integrated Pest Management, Preventative Measures, Calculating and mixing the correct amount of chemical.
    4. CPPUPM3006 Manage Pests by Applying Pesticides
    Pest control legislation and licensing, Dangerous Goods, Types of Pests, Species Identification – Ants/Cockroaches/Rodents/Spiders, Pest Management General Requirements, Premises Inspection, Infestation Identification, Safety Data Sheets, Chemical Control of Pests, Protective clothing and equipment (personal protective equipment), Types of pesticides and how they enter animals and plants, The risk management process, Ant Control, Cockroach Control, Spider Control, Rodent Control, Pesticide treatment program, Weather Conditions, Preparing a property pest-management plan, Disposal of unused pesticide and empty pesticide containers, Decontamination and maintenance of pesticide application equipment, Safe storage of pesticides and spray equipment, Cleaning up a pesticide spill, First aid procedures for pesticide poisoning, Preventative Measures.
    4. CPPUPM3018 Maintain Equipment and Pesticide Storage Area in Pest Management Vehicles
    Pest Control Vehicle Requirements, Pesticide Use, Transport and Storage, Pesticide Use and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Fire Fighting Equipment, Managing Chemical Spills, Washing and Equipment Clean-up, Records
